Coffee & Conversation – Documentation as Advocacy

April 8 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Join us for a dialogue on the power of documentation as a tool to advocate for high quality early education

Peter Moss explains, “Documentation is one of the keys to Malguzzi’s philosophy. Behind the process of a transparent school and transparent education…a political idea emerges which is that schools must also have public visibility.”

With this in mind, Charlestown Nursery School’s Arboretum classroom will share a long-term study and community documentation as a provocation for dialogue with Dr. Tiziana Filippini. The focus of the project was designing a carousel to explore a variety of concepts, including collaboration, designing for others, and how things work. Given that we agree that education is a political method, we consider our school as one of cooperation and dialogue. This project has supported our classroom in creating a space that is one of citizenship. We now consider, “How can we most effectively use pedagogical documentation as a piece of advocacy?” We aim to elevate the early childhood teacher’s role and the understanding of the child as capable by engaging in discussions with families and the Boston community regarding key markers of high-quality early childhood education.

Classrooms are open to visit from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.

Charlestown Nursery School is easily accessible via the MBTA orange line stop at Bunker Hill Community College just a few blocks away and the MBTA 92 Bus at Main Street and Union Street (inbound)/ Warren Street and Church Street (outbound).
