Children as Citizens in Boston and Beyond

April 9 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Join us for a conversation with Dr. Tiziana Filippini on the right of children and the future of early education

Carlina Rinaldi reminds us “The child is not a citizen of the future; he [sic] is a citizen from the very first moment of life and also the most important citizen because he represents and brings the ‘possible’…a bearer, here and now of rights, of values, of culture…It is our historical responsibility not only to affirm this but the create cultural, social, political, and educational contexts which are able to receive children and dialogue with their potential for constructing human rights.”

As a leader in democracy and equity work, Dr. Tiziana Filippini will join us in a conversation about how inspiration from the schools in Reggio Emilia can serve as a model for larger policy and advocacy work. With the rights of children as citizens in mind, we will imagine what could be possible for our city and beyond.

Educators from The Advent School will also share examples of how they engage children as citizens in their daily practice as a Reggio-inspired elementary school with a social justice mission.

Close to City Hall and the State House, we welcome elected officials and policy makers to join us as we envision a future Boston where high quality learning experiences are available to all.

This event venue is easily accessible via public transit and is across the street from the MBTA red line stop at Charles/MGH. Please note there is no public parking for this event. There is metered parking available along Charles St. and public parking garages in the area.

*Attendees are invited to make a donation to the Boston Area Reggio Inspired Network (BARIN) when registering for this event. BARIN is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization and uses donations to provide scholarships to individuals and organizations that are financially unable to participate in BARIN’s offerings.
