Open Studio Documentation Studio at BU

Our first Open Studio of the year is Monday, October 7 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at the Doc Studio at BU Wheelock, 180 Riverway, Boston, MA.  Charlestown Nursery School teachers, Julia and Valerie, will share Our Food Truck documentation (more info below).  Here is a link with info on the Doc Studio for info and to RSVP (although an RSVP is not required but helpful).

Charlestown Nursery School teachers are guided by emergent curriculum that is play-based and supports children’s right to be active agents in their learning. The curriculum is developed through a series of thoughtfully guided investigations that grow from the children’s own interests, which immerse them in the process and joys of real discovery. Teachers will share the example of a long-term inquiry study inspired by food, vehicles, and community. The story of “Our Food Truck”, which was sparked by the children’s enthusiasm for restaurant play and cargo vehicles, began in the classroom and culminated with the construction of a mobile food truck—“Tractor Trailer Blue-a-Cater Wheel Muffin Food Truck” —that served muffins to classmates at the park. Teachers will also share tools for documentation and the way that dedication to documenting this journey helped propel it along.
