JOB TITLE: Upper Elementary Teacher (Grade 5)

REPORTS TO: Head of Lower School

Summary: Supports the fundamental educational mission of the school by teaching core subjects

such as Mathematics, Language Arts, and Social Studies as well as additional subjects and/or

skills to students

School: Shore provides a challenging educational program for children from PreK through

Grade 9. We seek to create a stimulating learning experience for our students, recognizing the

various developmental stages of children as they grow. Working in partnership with the family,

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be


● Plan, organize, implement, and supervise a developmentally appropriate,

interdisciplinary, concept-based, and culturally sensitive upper elementary program

● Provide appropriate differentiation to support individual learners in the classroom

● Mentor a Teaching Assistant, providing supervision and training

● Work collaboratively with other faculty and in accordance with the Shore curriculum

● Develop positive relationships with children and their parents

● Develop daily lesson plans

● Assess the development and needs of individual children on a regular basis and

communicate progress to parents and the Head of Lower School

● Organize and maintain a healthy, safe, and inclusive learning environment

● Maintain verbal and written communication with parents on a regular basis

● Maintain discipline in classroom as well as monitor and enforce the school’s Community


● Envision, coordinate, and supervise class field trips

● Write narrative reports on students two times each year and conduct parent-teacher

conferences three times each year

● Participate in pertinent department, division, and all-employee meetings

● Interpret Shore policy to parents

● Perform necessary duties and implement schedules in collaboration with other faculty


● Participate in professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training

workshops for the purpose of professional development

● Keep abreast of current research and practices in elementary education, child

development, and equity and justice issues

● Maintain necessary records

● Counsel and advise students on social and academic concerns

● Perform related duties such as supervising and/or sponsoring one or more student

activities or student organizations

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual

Bachelor’s degree from accredited four-year college or university


● Ability to effectively listen, respond, and present information to students, parents,

● Exhibits strong organizational skills, demonstrates innovative thinking, and takes


● Has knowledge of current curricular and instructional practice

● Has knowledge of and ability to use technology in support of teaching
