JOB:  ALL-SCHOOL TEACHER

Start Date: August 28, 2023

 

SUMMARY
Newtowne School, a Reggio Emilia-inspired, family cooperative preschool in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is expanding its faculty and has created an additional position of All-School teacher to support child-centered, emergent curriculum for its Early Drop (8:00-8:30), Core (8:30-12:30), and Extended Day (12:30-3:30) programs.  Our school consists of four classrooms that serve children aged 22 months to 5 years.  This position is for the academic year (September-June) and a 6-week summer program (July-mid August).

 

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The All-School Teacher role requires close collaboration with teachers in all classrooms, as well as the Atelierista, Inclusion Specialist, School Coordinator, and Executive Director.   It can include creative opportunities to support planning, curriculum development, and documentation for school-wide projects.  Additional responsibilities include attending faculty meetings and professional development, as well as other duties assigned by the Leadership Team.  This position is an excellent opportunity for a teacher looking to develop professionally in one or more of the following ways:  to develop Reggio Emilia-inspired practices, to gain experience in both toddler and preschool classrooms, and/or to develop a broad repertoire of strategies for supporting culturally- and linguistically-diverse learners and those with special rights.  

 

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidates will have many of the following:

  • Massachusetts EEC Preschool or Infant/Toddler Lead Teacher certification (both preferred) or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in education, child development, or related field 
  • At least 3 years of early childhood classroom experience
  • Proficiency in implementing inquiry-based curricula, with a focus on observation, reflection, and documentation
  • Dedication to anti-bias and anti-racist curriculum and commitment to teaching for social justice
  • Experience supporting students with special rights 
  • Previous involvement in a cooperative preschool and/or navigating home-school partnerships
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Interest and/or experience in progressive, Reggio-inspired educational settings
