Observation and Reflection Principles to Interpret Young Children’s Learnin

September 4 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The more we engage in sensitive observation in the classroom, the more we understand the enormous amount of learning happening.

The more we engage in sensitive observation in the classroom, the more we understand and appreciate the enormous amount of learning that happens during ordinary moments. In this workshop, we will focus on how observation and reflection can guide curriculum, instruction, and assessment practice in meaningful and authentic ways. The observation principles shared during the presentation will be applicable to children of all ages and many of the examples will feature infants and toddlers. In the final half hour, participants will have opportunities to practice applying some of the principles in video documentation samples from classrooms.

This workshop is presented by Megan Shahnooshi, an early educator with a passion for infant/toddler care and development. Megan has worked in the field of early childhood education for over a decade; her experience spans classroom teaching, research, curriculum writing, and teacher education. She is continually inspired by the competencies of very young children and the development that occurs in rich and nourishing relationships. Megan holds a MA from the University of Colorado/ Boulder Journey School Teacher Education Program and an EdM from Harvard Graduate School of Education. Megan is a first year doctoral student at Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she is leading a research project focused on relational quality between young children and their caregivers.
