What does it mean to be an author? What is the purpose of writing a book? Where do stories come from? In
this workshop from the Innovations series, we will delve into the role of stories in the early childhood classroom,
exploring children’s play as the center of their powerful authorship. The presenters will discuss their new book,
looking the process of building rich language arts curricula out of children’s play. Following the experiences of
one preschool class, we will look deeply at young children’s understandings of themselves as authors, and how
this work might be integrated across the curriculum
